Today, World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), producers of the IronKids event brand, announces its partnership with Hy-Vee, Inc., to launch the inaugural Hy-Vee IronKids Midwest Triathlon Series. The series, part of the IronKids National Triathlon Series, includes 13 races taking place between June and September that will culminate with the Hy-Vee IronKids U.S. Championship on Sept. 17 in West Des Moines, Iowa. Registration for the Midwest events opens at 4 p.m. CST on Thursday, Nov. 11, at www.IronKids.com.
Hy-Vee, one of the nation’s largest regional supermarket chains, sponsors the Hy-Vee Triathlon, now the U.S. Championship event of WTC’s new 5150 Series. Randy Edeker, president of Hy-Vee, Inc., said sponsorship of triathlon events for competitors of all ages has become an iconic focal point of the company’s health and wellness initiatives.
“The new Hy-Vee IronKids Midwest Series is without a doubt the most exciting addition to the Hy-Vee triathlon since its inception in 2007,” said Edeker. “What better way to promote healthy lifestyles than to offer more opportunities for young people to compete in triathlon – a sport that’s all about physical fitness, good nutrition and striving to achieve personal goals.”
In addition to triathlons for children ages 6 to 15, the Hy-Vee IronKids Midwest Triathlon Series offers an interactive weekend experience for the entire family. Each event will also see youth running races, the IronKids Expo and youth triathlon clinics. The triathlon clinics are lead by USAT-certified coaches and will range in level from introductory to advanced.
All finishers will receive a commemorative medal, and the top three participants in each age group will receive a trophy. The top five finishers at each of the IronKids National and Midwest Series events will qualify for the Hy-Vee IronKids U.S. Championship in West Des Moines.
“We are excited about our relationship with Hy-Vee and the opportunity to work with such a passionate and health-focused company,” said Michelle Payette, director of IronKids. “The partnership has enabled this substantial expansion of the IronKids brand to the Midwest that will aid in the development of youth triathlon.”
