Sound Probiotics has signed yet another dominant triathlete to their burgeoning ranks, adding two-time World XTERRA Champion Lesley Paterson to the list. The very popular, self-proclaimed “Scottish Lass” becomes the 4th National or World Champion on the roster, joining Rachel Joyce, Matty Reed and Sam Shultz, but she’s their first athlete who focusses on the ever-growing sport of off-road triathlon.

“It takes dedication to be a multiple World and National champion, but with all her success, what is even more impressive about Lesley is her honesty, playfulness and passion.” Says Sound Co-Founder Ted Stephany. “The smile is real, and it’s so obvious she absolutely loves what she’s doing! It takes a little something extra to excel at the grueling and rugged sport of off-road triathlon, and Lesley has that talent and grit. And with her Braveheart Coaching, she is inspiring other athletes to excel as well.”

Add these to Sound’s other athletes including triathlete Ben Hoffman, and professional cycling’s Team Novo Nordisk, and they’ve now got a stable including Olympians, World, National and Collegiate Champions, and winners of countless individual races, across multiple sports.

Growing up in the UK, Lesley Paterson loved to get dirty and fight with boys! And she found a home for both in her chosen sport of rugby. But at 14 the Scottish Lassie discovered triathlon and has competed all over the world for the British and Scottish triathlon team. After a five-year hiatus from self-proclaimed “burnout,” she got back into running and cycling, eventually discovering off-road triathlons where she could ride her own race, and get plenty dirty in the process.

It was a natural fit: Lesley has dominated the XTERRA scene over the past several years, and has seen her share of success at the 70.3 distance and even mountain bike racing. She’s a two-time World Champ at XTERRA (2012 and 2013), but unfortunately didn’t race in 2014 due do a year-long bout with Lyme disease! She also won countless other off-road races, regional and US championships in various disciplines. Fortunately the effects of her disease seem behind her now, as she has already won four XTERRA titles so far in 2015 – including winning OVERALL in Laguna Beach, CA! She now has her sights set firmly on another World title in Kona. Lesley also owns Braveheart Coaching business with her husband Simon.

“As a professional athlete who has struggled with Lyme disease and gut problems for years, I’ve been on the lookout for probiotics that use strains specifically studied with athletes. Sound probiotics are not only based on that science, but they constantly scour new research for formulations that apply to the battered immune systems of athletes. Since starting the Sport Formula, I’ve never felt stronger and more resilient.”

Ted’s co-founding brother Mark – a doctor of internal medicine – adds, “We are thrilled to have these pros on board, but not entirely surprised of the interest because the product does precisely what it was designed to do – keep athletes healthy and training hard. It’s definitely a testament to our unique, sports-specific formula that there’s been so much immediate interest.”

But the Sound team is not complete just yet. More major additions are in the works, including road and trail runners and obstacle course racers, among others.
