The Subaru Sea Otter Classic is one of the cycling world’s most famous cycling festivals. On top of the various cycling races that take place throughout the Laguna Seca Recreation Area in Monterey, Calif., people come to Sea Otter to check out the newest in bike equipment and training technologies. Here’s a sampling of some of the coolest items we saw up there:
The Garmin VIRB Elite HD Action Camera with Wifi (MSRP $299-$399)
Garmin’s foray into the action camera world offers a 16 megapixel CMOS image processor, 1080p HD video recording, a 1.4″ display monitor and a high-sensitivity GPS system with altimeter and barometer. That epic backcountry mountain bike jump so amazing that no one would believe you actually landed? Yeah, consider it proven.
Enve Backpack and Wheel Bag (MSRP Backpack $195, Backpack with Wheel Bag $240)
With enough room for all your cycling clothes, shoes and even a laptop, the Enve backpack is a must-have for race travel carry-on luggage. And the wheel bag keeps your previous cargo safe and secure, and even attaches directly to the backpack so those long airport connections are a breeze.
Lightweight Meilenstein Wheelset (MSRP $5,600/set)
The new Meilenstein wheels are designed to be even more aerodynamic, even lighter, and even have better braking performance than their predecessor. Check out this video about the wheels, and we dare you to not be tempted to drop everything and take a European cycling vacation immediately.
