Revolution3 announces its 2014 Amateur Prize Money Pool for 2014 races. REV3, in its 6th year, has taken the amateur racing to a new level with this new incentive and reconfirms its commitment to amateur racing. Eight races will have a $4800 purse with 4 categories- Under 40 Men, 40+ Men, Under 40 Women, and 40+ Women.
“We are excited to bring prize money to the REV3 events for our amateur racers for 2014. We have always been about providing a quality and unique race environment to every athlete and this allows us to showcase our amateur athlete fields,” Charlie Patten, founder of Revolution3 said.
REV3 is one of only a few organizations in the country to offer prize money to amateur racers. The 2014 races that will offer amateur prize money are Quassy HalfREV, Williamsburg OlympicREV, Wisconsin Dells HalfREV, Maine OlympicREV, Poconos HalfREV, Cedar Point FullREV, South Carolina HalfREV and Florida HalfREV. Quassy has been a racing icon since its first REV3 there in 2009 and has a limited number of spots available for its 2014 edition on June 1st.
Amateur athletes are thrilled to have this added to the REV3 races.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for amateur racers and elite amateur racers. It is always nice to be rewarded for your hard work and compensation takes it up to the next level in terms of recognition. I think this will create new avenues for our sport of triathlon in terms of giving back to the heart and soul of any triathlon event: the racer. It will increase the interest in the events and open up new doors for amateurs trying to get to the next level,” Kenrick Smith said. “By giving financial incentives to amateurs it can cover their cost of travel, they can make enhancements to their gear, and also propel them to the next level of racing that they may be seeking.”
“Age groupers are the bread and butter of our race series and want to reward them with opportunities they normally cannot find elsewhere,” said Eric Opdyke, REV3 National Race Director.
The prize money breakdown for the races is:
*Athletes with elite licenses are eligible to win prize money, however they will race within their respective age group.
The total age group prize purse is over $50,000 with $4800 per race plus the $20,000 championships.
REV3 will return to Knoxville in 2015 to host the REV3 age group championship where age group athletes will be awarded cash and prizes of $20,000. To learn more about this series: http://rev3tri.com/maine/age-
