Aernouts, Goos Keep Titles at Antwerp 70.3

Written by Jay Prasuhn on Monday, July 26, 2010

Belgians factored into each victory today at Ironman 70.3 Antwerp, as Bart Aernouts and Sofie Goos each claimed titles Sunday.

Aernouts, a member of the Dutch pro Rabobank cyclo-cross squad with a clear affinity for cycling and running at high intensity, proved his mettle at distance on the road in taking the win by a minute 30 seconds over Marino Vanhoenacker and over two minutes on Dirk Bockel, neither a knockover pro.

Goos kept the women’s crown in Belgium in topping Rachel Joyce of Team Abu Dhabi, and fellow Briton Emma-Kate Lidbury. The race was Joyce’s first back after a foot injury sustained while mounting the bike at T1 during the Abu Dhabi Triathlon.
