Tri-California Events has announced that for its second annual Wildflower Squared (WF2) competition, the number of racers will exceed its inaugural year. WF2 is part of the 32nd Annual Wildflower Triathlon Festival to be held on May 2-4, 2014 at Lake San Antonio South Shore in Monterey, County, CA. From the success and popularity of last year’s event launch, participants will again have the opportunity to not only do one triathlon, but two back-to-back ones for what is fondly called, “Long Course + Olympic Distance = Once Crazy Triathlete and One Awesome Weekend.”
In 2013’s first year for the WF2 as a race category, 86 participants took the challenge and for 2014, the number has already surpassed it with 90-plus racers—and growing. In the spirit of the Wildflower Triathlons Festival, this race is for the people as to date it has already attracted participants from eight different states, three countries as well as male and female athletes from 24-years-old up to 68.
“If you want to combine one of the greatest triathlons on the planet, double your fun, bragging rights for life, and the ultimate test of your endurance and fitness, then you must do Wildflower Squared! ” said Ben Greenfield, a participant in last year’s inaugural race.
This competition isn’t for the faint of heart as endurance, perseverance and mental fortitude are just some of the traits required for this two-day triathlon event. WF2 is broken down as the following:
May 3, 2014: Athletes will start on Saturday with the Long Course at 8 a.m., which consists of a 1.2m Swim, 56m Bike and 13.1m Run. This triathlon has been recognized as one of the most challenging Long Courses worldwide. Finishers are few and far between.
May 4, 2014: Participants return on Sunday for the Olympic Distance Triathlon, which starts at 9 a.m. and consists of the 1.5k Swim, 40k Bike and 10k Run.
For the athletes who complete the grueling two-day challenge, they will receive a limited edition custom-designed Headsweats visor, a finisher medal from each race and an additional award to be unveiled at this year’s event by race organizers. Finishers will also be eligible for overall Age Group awards in the WF2 category.
Interested racers are encouraged to sign up now to secure their race entry as this year’s event will likely sell out.
