US Pro Tri Team July Update: Racing All Over

US Pro team July report

July was a bit of a fractured month for us, with several guys taking a short mid-season break, while others were racing all over the place. It actually worked out well, as there are some big races coming up.

As far as big races go, John Kenny started it out for us this month as our lone entrant at the Lifetime Fitness tri in MN. With this highly competitive international field and one of the largest prize purses in the sport, just getting invited is a big accomplishment. John finished 10th overall against some of the biggest stars in the sport. He then jumped in the Decatur Tri in IL the very next day, and had the fastest swim to take second overall in a 5-pro field. The same weekend, Paul Fritzsche had a very solid race at the Rhode Island 70.3 amongst some stiff international competition. He had very consistent splits in all three sports, finishing 9th pro, and 2nd American (that tells you how much international competition these races have)! Nick Waninger also completed his first tri back from a broken collarbone, finishing 5th pro at the Chattanooga Tri in TN. This race, despite the regional nature, always pulls a great pro field due to the prize money.

The next weekend Zach Ruble and Ryan Giuliano both raced at the Racine 70.3 in WI. Zach had a great swim and solid run to finish 6th pro in this international field of 18 pro’s. Ryan G. had mechanical troubles on the bike but still managed to place well in 12th. Nick also came in 6th pro at the Evergreen Tri in IL, in his second week of racing in a row. This is another great midwest race that always pulls a strong field.

Our last weekend of the month turned out to be a great one at the Steelhead 70.3 in MI. We had a very solid turnout at this beautiful race on Lake Michigan. Zach, Nick, Kevin Lisska, and Ryan G. all raced while Ryan Bates was on hand for support duty. With the usual high turnout of 19 pro’s and a lot of international competition, many packs formed throughout the race. Zach was our top man in 7th place, followed by Nick in 10th (pictured above), Kevin in 14th, and Ryan G. in 15th. Overall a great race for us especially with two guys in the top ten and a great team presence.

We also brought in another couple regional wins this month: Paul won the Happy Valley Sprint Tri in PA (which he also helped organize), and John won the Metroman Tri in NJ. Make sure to come out and see us in August!
