Last weekend, LAVA received a prestigious 2011 Maggie Award for “Best Single Editorial Photograph in a Consumer Magazine.” This was not only a highlight for us as a new magazine, but for the WTC (ironman.com), our parent company, as well.
The winning photograph of two-time Ironman World Champion Craig Alexander was taken by LAVA’s senior photographer Don Miralle for the inaugural issue. LAVA Magazine’s editorial team was on hand at the Maggie banquet in Los Angeles to accept the award.
“Our staff was very gratified to be nominated for seven Maggies,” stated LAVA publisher, John Duke. “To actually win an award was incredible. Most of our team has been in the triathlon publishing business for many years and this was not only our first award, it was our first nomination.”
More than 400 members of the magazine industry gathered on April 30th at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel in Los Angeles for the 60th annual Maggie Awards. Competing against such established titles as Mother Jones, Men’s Fitness and OC Weekly, the Maggie Award nominees represent the best achievements among West-Coast-based publishing companies.
