Craft beer is the new gold medal for teams at the LeadmanTri Bend. Forget the trophies and ribbons; winners in the team categories at this unique endurance race will get the team’s combined weight in Deschutes Brewery craft beer. The race is slated for September 21 against the picturesque backdrop of Beer Town USA: Bend, Oregon.

“We know one thing for sure – by the end of this race, these athletes will have earned a beer (or three),” said Angela Jasus, field marketing manager for Deschutes Brewery. “We excited to partner with the LeadmanTri for the second year in a row to give these athletes a unique prize that toasts their accomplishment. We’re big supporters of pushing limits – just like all these competitors are doing – and that’s why we enjoy participating in events like the LeadmanTri.”

Host to numerous world and national championship events every year, Bend is becoming the epicenter for America’s elite outdoor athletes. Voted the Best New Race of 2012 by Triathlete Magazine, the LeadmanTri Bend features an epic 5K swim in Oregon’s deep, cool Cultus Lake, a 223K bike course around Mount Bachelor and a two-loop 22K running course around Tetherow Golf Course with a dramatic finish in NorthWest Crossing.

There are two race lengths available: the Leadman 250 (described above) and the Leadman 125, which features a 2.5K swim, 106K bike ride, and a 16.5K run. Athletes finishing within the designated time limits receive the coveted LeadmanTri Belt Buckle for their efforts. Relay teams, who are up for the Deschutes Brewery beer prize, of two or three people can also sign up for either race distance.
