LAVA has announced that age-group triathlete Brent Pease is the winner of its first ever cover contest and will be featured on the April 2016 cover.

Out of dozens of submissions by age-group triathletes from around the world, five athletes were handpicked by LAVA‘s editorial team for an online contest throughout the month of November. Visitors to were able to vote once per day, and at the end of the month, Pease finished first with 34.8 percent of the vote.

Pease will be featured with his younger brother, Kyle, who was born with Cerebral Palsy and races alongside Brent in triathlons and marathons all over the country. To date, Brent has paddled, pedaled and pushed his younger brother to three Ironman finishes.

“Kyle and I could not be more excited to be the winners of the LAVA cover contest,” Pease said. “We grew up jumping at the sports section or magazines first so to be featured on the cover is almost surreal. We look forward to sharing our stories with LAVA readers and hopefully racing with them sometime next year.”

The Pease Brothers compete for their charity, The Kyle Pease Foundation, which raises money and awareness for programs supporting disabled athletes competing in sports. Programs include scholarship opportunities and purchasing of medical and adaptive sports equipment.

“We’re looking forward to sharing the amazing story of the Pease Brothers with our readers,” said LAVA Editor-in-Chief Brad Culp. “We started this contest with the idea of having one age-group triathlete as the subject of a cover story and now we’ll have two of the most inspiring triathletes in the world featured.”

The April 2016 issue of LAVA will be mailed to subscribers on February 10 and available on newsstands March 1.
