There’s nothing quite like the annual Underpants Run, held the Thursday before the Hawaii Ironman, to get racers and spectators to show their true colors. Rainbow wigs, masquerade masks, Mickey Mouse ears and—of course—lots and lots of brightly colored skivvies make the jaunt from the Banyan Tree to the Kailua Pier, where athletes were then treated to a brief round of jumping jacks, squat thrusts, and chest pumps led by Ironman’s Roch Frey and Paul Huddle. The mood was joyous, the crowd was pumped, and the panties were plentiful. Naturally, we were all there to join in the fun.
